Summer Social Media Paid Internship​

Location: Anywhere in North America - we all work remote! (Preference may be given to candidates based in Calgary, Penticton or London, but this is not a deal breaker.) 

We are looking for an eager to learn and creative Social Media Intern to join our team! Our Social Media Intern will work directly with our Brand Experience Managers in all areas of social media management. This position will play an active support role in managing our clients social media accounts and supporting our business. This is a paid internship. 

Are you a social media rockstar, well versed in all the major platforms out there? Are you as creative as they come - able to visualize how a brand should look and feel in a digital experience? Are you eager to learn and be proactive in your development? Are you a team player, who loves to collaborate with others behind the scenes? Are you a motivated self-starter, who thrives working with minimal supervision and appreciates a flexible work schedule?

This position will be great if you are:

  • An avid social media user who understands the landscape (you don’t have to be an expert, but you need to know your way around)

  • Looking to start a career in digital marketing/social media

  • Seeking an internship that offers approximately 10 hours a week

  • Value the flexibility this job offers (work schedule has some weekly meetings but no set hours)

We work with a myriad of different brands and industries ranging from e-commerce, outdoor adventure and apparel, food and wine, events, B2B technology and various professional services. We love the variety - it keeps us on our toes!


Here’s what you would be doing...

  • Assist in managing client brands, executing across all social media channels (platforms, programs, and campaigns).

  • Develop relevant content topics to reach the company’s target customers.

  • Support in creating, curating, and scheduling published content (images, video and written).

  • Creating and managing social media contests.

  • Researching relevant hashtags.

  • Develop and expand community and/or influencer outreach efforts.

  • Conduct or support design (ie: Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, thumbnails, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile, design blogs, etc.).

  • Support in designing, creating and managing social ad campaigns.

  • Analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of social media efforts overall in an effort to maximize results.

  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design and strategy.

  • Implement ongoing education to remain highly effective.

  • Special projects as required.

  • Find opportunities to reshare other content, participate in conversations.

  • Ensure all questions, comments, and mentions are addressed and escalated as required.

You know you’re qualified if you...

  • Are an eager, self starter ready to learn. 

  • Have experience or relevant education in social media or marketing.

  • Are an exceptionally creative person with the ability to identify and follow a visual brand strategy, and execute by creating supporting content (graphic, video, written, etc.)

  • Exhibit the ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to analytical side, able to think outside of the box and problem solve as needed.

  • Display knowledge and understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be utilized in different scenarios.

  • Practice superior time management.

  • Are a team player with the confidence to take the lead in your own development.

  • Have a good technical understanding and can pick up new tools quickly.

  • Demonstrate winning Social Customer Service techniques such as empathy, patience, advocacy and conflict resolution.

Pay & Hours:

  • Starting at $15/hour + based on proven abilities, experience and special skills.

  • Approximately 8-15 hours/week required. Hours will fluctuate based on client roster and time of the month.

  • This position is considered a freelance contractor, so the successful candidate will need to invoice Marr Media Group monthly for hours worked and will be paid in full monthly. As a contractor, you’ll be responsible to claim this as income and file taxes.
