How To Make A GIF Of Your Own

Whether you pronounce it with a hard G or a soft G (there is much debate over this), there is no denying their constant presence in our online communication these days. These ""Graphics Interchange Formats"" (bet you didn't know that one) can tell your entire story in a quick 5 second loop stolen from your favourite television show or even a memorable moment in pop culture. Why use your words, when a GIF can say it all for you?

Now that certain platforms are offering collections of GIFs for us to use with ease (we're tipping our hats to you Facebook and Twitter), it's easier than ever to communicate in video. But what if you can't find what you're looking for? What if that specific Lorelai/Rory moment that so perfectly explains your feelings is not showing up when you search? How will you really prove your point? Ahhhh....

Don't panic. We're going to show you how to make a GIF of your own!

First, you'll have to decide on which website you want to use. We like giphy.com because it walks us through step by step with ease. If this one doesn't tickle your fancy, you can also try makeagif.com, gifmaker.me or gifcreator.me.

Once you've navigated to the website, you'll have to decide what you want to create your GIF out of; Youtube videos, photos, webcam, etc. We are going to use YouTube for this tutorial as this is the best database for our favourite movie clips. Now go ahead and search YouTube for the perfect video so we can get started!

1. Enter your YouTube video URL at the top, and click ""Browse"".

2. Your video should automatically load, and then you can start creating! Choose a start time, and a length (up to 10 seconds) for your GIF. You can even add a caption, or MEME style phrase if you like.

3. If you want your GIF to ""break the internet"" you can even add searchable tags to it, so others can use and share your GIF. Then click ""Create GIF"".

4. And boom! You're all done, and your GIF is ready to share with the world. Choose the platform you'd like to share it on or use the URL provided to share in your blog, like this:

Now go start creating, and don't forgot to share your awesome and hilarious GIF's with us at @media_mad!
